The Winter Solstice in Taiwan is an important traditional festival symbolizing family reunions and warmth. On this day, it is customary for Taiwanese to eat Tangyuan, a type of round glutinous rice food representing completeness and happiness. Families either make or buy various Tangyuan, such as white, pink, or yellow, some of which are filled with sweet fillings like peanuts, sesame, or red beans. Tangyuan is not only a festive delicacy but also carries the people’s longing for home and blessings for a better life in the future. In the cold winter, sitting together with family and enjoying the steaming Tangyuan creates a unique warmth, making the Winter Solstice one of the most anticipated festivals in Taiwan.
